What happens at my Driving medical?

Medicals usually take 20 - 30 minutes. The doctor will complete the relevant questionnaire with you and then carry out a physical examination which includes: an eye test, urine test, blood pressure measurement. If there are any abnormal findings the doctor will inform and advise accordingly and write to your GP if you should so wish.

Please bring the relevant form (D4 for HGV or Local Authority Licensing form for Taxi), a urine sample and some identification.

What is the most common reason for failing a medical?

One of the most common causes of failing a medical is poor eyesight. If you think that your eyesight is not as good as it should be it may be best getting your eyes tested by an optician before the medical is due, as this could save you from failing your medical.
